There are many opinions about urban spaces, but the broad agreement is that towns and settlements should be tightly constructed around a hub - and that trains, buses, trams, taxis and subways should have a bigger part in this context.
Rom’s property portfolio is unusual, both in type and location. Our 1000 properties are evenly distributed throughout Norway, but common to nearly all of them is that they are located in the centre of large towns and along railway lines. Through these properties Rom plays an important role as a developer of interchangeable hubs.
We also have an important coordinating role in helping the various public transport players to cooperate in encouraging greater use of public transportation. We ensure that buses, trams and subways have stops right by the railway and that their timetables are coordinated with the train traffic.
Our aim is to increase the overall usage of public transportation. Rom Eiendom participates in all parts of the value chain from ideas phase to management, operation and maintenance.
Let’s meet at the station
Station development aims to revitalize station areas to make them a more vital and attractive space, a place where travelers and visitors would like to come. Station areas are important traffic hubs and offer large areas in the heart of towns and settlements. Their importance and location should imply an invitation: “Let’s meet at the Station”
Many stations are little used and poorly planned in comparison to the potential of their sites, both with regard to travelers and from a development perspective. With this in mind, station development needs to be integrated with the wider urban development and have a central part in this. Station development must contribute to revitalization and development of the town centre.
